The Parish Pastoral Council

The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body which meets on a monthly basis. It is made up of the Parish Team and, as far as has been possible, representatives from the various Sunday Masses and Parish Groups. Groups not currently represented are welcome to nominate a representative.

Its primary purpose is to act as a sounding board, reflecting on the parish’s life and mission, and so to assist the Parish Priest in the development and co-ordination of existing or proposed pastoral initiatives. In this, it is guided by the pastoral priorities established at the last Parish Assembly. Items for consideration are brought to it by both the Parish Priest, other members of the Parish Team and the members of the Parish Council.

The intention is that the Parish Pastoral Council will:

  • Make the Church more alive and open to the Spirit and to further the spread of the Kingdom of God
  • Provide a structure for constructive dialogue with the Parish Community and thus as a means of consultation and communication in the Parish
  • Ensure an ongoing assessment of the spiritual, social and human needs of the Parish and to foster ways to meet these needs
  • Draw out, draw together and draw upon the talents and gifts of the Christian Community in the Parish. “As each one has received a gift use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Peter 4:10)
