Welcome from Fr Michael
Welcome to St Alban & St Stephen, one of two Catholic parishes belonging to the Diocese of Westminster and serving the City of St Albans, Hertfordshire and the surrounding area.
If you would like to know whether or not you live within the parish boundaries, please email the parish office with your address and postcode.
I am Fr Michael O’Boy, the Parish Priest. With you I am a relative newcomer, having arrived here in Autumn 2019, just in time to see the parish into lockdown. Like Fr John Casey, who arrived in September 2023, I am a Westminster priest. Together with Rev. Brendan Day, our permanent deacon, we comprise the parish clergy.
You are joining the parish at a very exciting juncture. Having said farewell to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, who served the parish for over a hundred years, we held our long awaited Parish Assembly in June 2021. The Parish Assembly considered our pastoral priorities going forward as well as the formation of a new Parish Pastoral Council. We are now embarking on an exciting, new building project. Aimed at facilitating our gathering before Mass and our socialising afterwards, Phase 1 will involve the refurbishment of the forecourt and grounds at the front of the Church and the enlargement of the Church Porch. You can find out more here.
You are new, you are welcome and it would be good to know what you think St Alban and St Stephen should look like going forward. What kind of parish community do you want to be a part of?
I hope it isn’t too long before you begin to settle and find a home among us, that you will get involved in at least one parish activity, helping to build up the body of Christ in this place, and ensuring that before anything else this is an evangelising community built on Christ and sharing his love.
Of course, making your way in any new environment can be a little daunting and somewhat frustrating. You may well have to be patient with us, but please, above all, help us to remember the joys and challenges of what it is to be new and that the newcomer among us – your face, your voice, your talents and your needs – changes and reshapes the parish, the community, that ‘we’ are.
